Reality vs Expectations

You and I can become disillusioned when our reality does not match our expectations.

We go overseas with certain expectations of what our lives will be like. I have learned that rarely does our experience live up to the expectations. It may be in our fruitfulness, lifestyle, colleagues, leadership, etc.

Sometimes life does not turn out like we thought it would.

How do we respond to this? What do you and I do when our reality does not match expectations?

*Guard your heart. Do not allow bitterness, cynicism, or skepticism to seep in. These are poisons that will destroy you, your ministry, and everything dear to you.

*Have faith in the sovereignty of God. Our circumstances may not live up to our circumstances but God never fails. The one who called you has not changed.

*Have the longview. We live in a microwave society that wants everything now. God rarely works that way. His plans usually take time. You have to believe in God’s timing as much as you do God’s power. He will fulfill his will in your life. Trust him both with the results and with the timing.

*Do not hold in your frustrations. Unprocessed emotions never die. You may bury them but something will trigger you and the emotions will surface. They usually surface ugly.

Find a safe person you can process with, who will listen to you and pray with you. They probably cannot solve the problem but you will deal with the difficulty differently if you have someone walk alongside of you.

Cathy and I are here for you. If you ever want to talk, just let us know.

We Are Walking Together
