Member Care Tips - Part 7

There is power in kindness.

I do not live in the best neighborhood in Springfield. Many people who live in the area are not treated with respect. Today I went in a convenient store and as I was entering one the customers was a little grumpy with me. To be honest it frustrated me then I heard a little voice say “be kind.” I smiled, called him sir, and said thank you. An amazing transformation took place as his whole demeanor changed.

There is power in a little kindness.

Now I do not want to come across as better than I am. I can be grumpy. I tend not to talk to people much in stores. I am usually on a mission to purchase what I want and then get out of there!

But today, I relearned what a smile can do. I relearned the power of giving respect to people who usually do not receive it. I relearned that manners matter. I relearned the power of kindness.

Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit.

Jesus was kind. As a follower of Jesus, I am to be kind to others. There is no limit on kindness. You can be kind to everyone. You can show as much kindness as you want.

I encourage you to be kind. Be kind to your leaders. Be kind to your neighbors. Be kind to people who hurt you. Be kind to those who may oppose you. To do not give back to others what they deserve, go beyond that. Give them the kindness they do not deserve. Realize the power of kindness.

Be kind to the powerful. Be kind to the powerless. Do not just be kind to those who can do something for you but be kind to those who cannot give it in return. Be kind.

We are not kind to manipulate others, we are kind because Jesus is kind. Kindness has a power to make someone’s day better. Kindness has the power to build someone’s esteem. Kindness has the power to open a door to speak into someone’s life.

A little kindness can go a long way.
