Spending Time With Jesus

This verse has spoken to me.

”Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.“. Psalm‬ ‭143‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Recently I have rediscovered my need to hear from God in the mornings. I have always been fairly disciplined in my devotional/abiding times.

I am a morning person so usually that time happens at the beginning of the day but lately it has felt stale or lacking. If I am not careful my prayer times can become an activity to check off. Now I believe that is better than not doing it and if you are going to be consistent it will take discipline.

Yet I yearn for it to be more.

I hear that same yearning in David. Let me hear you in the morning. May I experience your steadfast love. Show me the way I should go. I lift my soul to you.

David is not describing an activity to be checked off but an experience with God.

That is my desire.

Questions

  • How about you?
  • How is your time with God?
  • Are they consistent?
  • Are they fresh or have they become mechanical and stale?
  • When is the last time you experienced the presence of God in your devotional times?
  • What can you do to make it fresh again?
  • Is there something you could change like the time, place, or routine?
  • Is there a sin that needs to be confessed?
  • A relationship that needs to be reconciled?
  • An offense that needs to be forgiven?
  • Or do you just need to sit in his presence until he comes?
  • Do you just need to rediscover worship?
