Standing on the Promises of God
When I was a child the church I grew up in had a revival to begin the year. An evangelist would come and we would have services at the beginning of the year. One year the evangelist stopped his sermon and asked me to stand. I was around 12 years old.
He gave me a verse, Psalm 1: 2-3. “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.“
This time changed my life. These verses have become life verses for me. They have given me direction, provided comfort, and built my faith.
I believe filling our minds with the word of God is key to good mental health. We need to challenge our thoughts to remove the negativity but we need to fill our minds with the truth. I still believe loving, learning, and living the word of God is the key to a healthy and prosperous life.
There is something about standing on the promises of God. There is something about fighting the good fight. There is something about acting in faith.
The reason this is important is because there are some things that happen in your life that cannot be explained by the natural. If what you are going through is not natural then it must be supernatural.
I know in the past the term spiritual warfare has been misused. At times it has caused guilt and shame those who seek a professional for physical and mental health. We never want to go back to that.
We also never want to be unaware of the schemes of the devil or deny the reality of spiritual warfare. Paul said we do not fight against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. Paul taught that even though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
If what you are facing is of a supernatural source, you must counter it with your spiritual weapons of standing on the promises of God, fasting, worshipping, prayer, and faith. You must plead the blood of Jesus and declare the word of God over your life, family, ministry, and city.
Fight the good fight!
