The Golden Rule Always Applies
We live in a day where relationships seem complicated. I do not know what is always appropriate, what I should or should not say, how to or not to respond. I have no desire to offend anyone but I find myself being ignorant in what is right or what others consider to be right.
Jesus makes it simple.
"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." - Matthew 7:12 NKJV
The Law of God and the prophets can be summed up as, "treat others the way you want them to treat you." This is simple but it is not easy.
The golden rule simply means that in whatever situation you are in, think that if I was in the other person’s position, how would I want them to treat me? Then do that.
There are no exceptions to the golden rule. There is no expiration date. The golden rule always applies
For instance, if you apply the golden rule to a situation where you are in conflict with someone. You treat them the way you would want them to treat you but it goes badly. They get offended.
What do you do then?
You ask yourself, if I were in that person’s position, how would I want them to treat me?
You go back to the golden rule. Simple but not easy.
In a day where relationships seem complicated and I seem to be confused, the golden rule always applies.
