What Do You Need to Separate From?

II Corinthians 6:16-18 (NKJV)
“And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you. I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.’”

II Corinthians 7:1 (NKJV)
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Reflection
God extends these profound promises to us:
  • He will dwell with me.
  • He will be my God.
  • I will belong to Him.
  • He will be a Father to me.
  • I am His child.

In light of these promises, my response should be:
  • To distance myself from worldly influences.
  • To live apart from the world's values.
  • To cleanse myself from all impurities of the flesh and spirit.
  • To pursue holiness in reverence to God.

These divine assurances affirm that I am His, and He is mine. In the New Testament context, this signifies being in Christ and having Christ within me. As His child, God’s presence resides within me.

In response to His work in my life, my motivation should be to live a holy life. Guilt is a fleeting motivator, but gratitude and love endure. Our separation from the world is not driven by fear of consequences but by our deep gratitude for what God has done and our love for Him. Our desire is to please Him.

Recognizing who God is fills me with reverence and awe, compelling me to distance myself from anything that could dishonor Him. True holiness is rooted in love.

Reflection Questions:
  • What do you need to separate from—sins, attitudes, or issues of the heart?
  • How can you become more pleasing to your Heavenly Father?

"Guilt is a fleeting motivator, but gratitude and love endure." - That's good! I totally feel this. There is definitely a difference!
