Team Life Characteristics - Part 6

Member Care Team Life

Characteristics of a Good Team Leader
Characteristic #6 Covering.

As my leader you have access to those above me in the organization. You can enhance my reputation or you can destroy it. You can promote me in the organization.

Every person I know who has been successful has someone in their lives that opens doors for them. They are not only a mentor but a sponsor. Be a sponsor for me.

If you have issues with my performance bring those issues to me, give me an opportunity to improve before you take them to organizational leaders. Be my covering.

Love covers a multitude of sins. Love me enough to help me grow to reach my potential. Do not label me. Do not give up on me quickly. Be patient with me. The kingdom wins when that happens.

Characteristics of a Good Team Member
Characteristic #6 Covering.

Covering goes both ways. A leader should cover the team member and a good team member will have the back of their leaders.

Please do not complain about my leadership to other team members. This only undermines my leadership and puts me in a negative light to those you've spoken with. They may have been fine with me until you spoke negatively about me.

If you have issues with my leadership, treat me like you want me to treat you. Come to me personally and privately.

Bottom Line:

For both team leaders and team members do not allow your frustrations to build up to the point that it comes out negative. Communicate early and often.

Do not assume the other person is aware of your frustrations. Many conflicts can be avoided by early and frequent communication. It is scary to have those talks, but they are necessary.

The more you allow your frustrations to build inside of you the less likely the conversation will go well.
