Always Choose the High Road
Have you ever had your buttons pushed? Encountered a social media post that made your blood boil? Been wronged or deeply hurt by someone?
In moments like these, it's essential to choose the high road. This means responding with grace, giving better than you've received, and refusing to retaliate. Instead of seeking revenge or getting even, you rise above.
Scripture teaches us a powerful lesson on this:
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you” Matthew 5:43-44, NKJV
These may be among the most challenging verses to live out, yet they are commands, not suggestions. Often, those who are quick to judge fail to heed these instructions.
When someone speaks ill of you, respond with kindness. If gossip is spread about you, choose silence over retaliation. When someone deliberately hurts you, pray for their well-being. If you're wronged, resist the urge to vent publicly—take it to God in prayer instead.
Taking the high road ensures you avoid being dragged into negativity. Engaging with others on their level only tarnishes your own character.
Obeying Christ's teachings about how to treat those who mistreat you will enrich your life, lower your stress, and grant you peace. Conversely, engaging with negativity can have damaging physical and emotional effects.
So choose the high road. Forgive. Pray for those who hurt you. Bless those who curse you. In doing so, you'll not only protect your heart, but also exemplify the love and grace of Christ.
