Member Care - What is the difference between committing vs surrendering to God?

My pastor, Dr. Jim Bradford, is preaching a series on faith from Hebrews 11. This week he made a comment that has been stirring in my spirit.

Faith is more than committing something to God, faith is surrendering something to God.

It is one thing to commit your children to God, it is another to surrender them to God.

It is one thing to commit your position and ministry to God, it is another to surrender to God what position you hold.

It is one thing to commit yourself to God, it is another to surrender your success and reputation to God.

It takes more faith to surrender than to commit.

This has led me to consider what do I need to surrender to God? Are there areas of my life I have committed to God but not surrendered?

Surrendering to God means I let go of the results. When I commit something to God I am giving him the action but when I surrender, I am letting go of the results.

My flesh wants to commit things to God as long as it leads to success. I am willing to commit things to God as long as I receive recognition.

Surrendering includes dying to self and giving all the glory to God.
