Do you have a Personal Growth Plan?
Years ago I read the question, "Do I have a personal growth plan?"
The answer was no. I had never heard of a personal growth plan. During that season in my life I decided I wanted to grow. I committed to progressively become the person God wanted me to be. I knew it was a process, not a one time event.
Since then I have decided that I want to be growing until the day I die. I never want to become stagnant. I never want to peak. I desire to continually grow and make progress.
My personal growth plan consists of:
Reading
Listening
People
Practice
So I grow by reading, listening, having mentors, and practice.

My personal growth plan consists of:
Reading
I read books that cause me to grow. I love history and biographies, learning from those who have gone before me. Lately, I have been reading writings from the late 1600’s. These writings have challenged me to develop the spiritual disciplines of simplicity, solitude, silence, and surrender.
Listening
I regularly listen to podcasts. Currently I listen to Dr. Jim Bradford and Jim Cymbala. Their preaching motivates me to pray, live holy, and become more like Jesus.
People
I have mentors in my life. Men I look up to who are around 10 years ahead of me. I watch them, ask them questions, and have someone to model after.
Practice
The best way to improve a skill is to practice. You can read books on leadership but you really learn to lead by leading something. It is like getting your drivers license. You can read the drivers manual but you learn to drive by getting behind the steering wheel. You have to put the theory into practice. People are unique and if I am not careful when I attempt to practice something I have read in a leadership book it can come across as manipulation to those I lead. Leadership is ultimately a relationship because you can only lead people. Leadership outside of relationship is rarely effective.
So I grow by reading, listening, having mentors, and practice.
