How Should You Respond to Suffering?

Job 42:2 (ESV)
“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”

Job endured immense suffering—arguably more than any person who has ever lived. He lost his children, all his possessions, and his physical health, while even his wife questioned his faith. Job’s losses spanned the physical, relational, and material aspects of his life.

Despite these trials, Job never lost his faith. At the conclusion of the book of Job, he reaffirms his trust in God, acknowledging that God is omnipotent and that His purposes cannot be thwarted.

The Bible teaches us that God knew us before we were born, even as we were formed in our mother’s womb. He has a plan and purpose for each of our lives.

  • Do you have the faith of Job?
  • Do you believe that God can do all things?
  • Do you trust that God will fulfill His purpose for your life?

When God gives you a promise, the enemy often tries to destroy it. When the Holy Spirit plants a seed in your heart, Satan will attempt to steal it. He will bring discouragement, doubt, fear, and worry. His goal is to cause you to give up and abandon your promise.

This is the essence of the fight of faith. In times of trouble, you must hold onto your faith. You must believe in God's character—that He is who He says He is—and in His power, that He will do what He says He will do.

Job’s unwavering faith is commendable. Despite all the suffering he endured, he never wavered in his trust in God. In the end, God restored everything Job had lost, and even multiplied it.

The same can be true for you, but you must fight for your promise. Keep the faith.

I encourage you not to focus on the source of your problems but on the solution. Your solution is always Jesus.
